Business Spotlight: The Magic Behind Pam’s Slow Jams

At Casskell Stays, we love partnering with local makers who bring the heart of Sullivan County straight to our guests. That’s why we’re thrilled to feature Pam’s Slow Jams as part of our premiere welcome gifts.

Pamela Mayer—beloved Narrowsburg creative, maker, and community staple—has been inspiring Sullivan County for decades with her clothing, knitting, baking, gardening, and now, her extraordinary jams. Each jar of Pam’s Slow Jams is lovingly crafted over 3–4 days, imbued with laughter, care, and what she calls a little “magic.”

“I think what makes the jams so special is the amount of time and magic they are imbued with. There is great joy and love when I’m macerating, cutting, mixing or cooking—there’s a lot of laughter and no rush!” Pam shared.

Making magic!

Locally Sourced, Thoughtfully Made

Pam sources her ingredients as close to home as possible. You’ll often find her at the Narrowsburg and Callicoon Farmers Markets or driving the back roads of Sullivan and the Hudson Valley to gather mulberries, blush raspberries, and black cap raspberries. She forages elderflowers, blueberries, and rose hips on her land—though sometimes she has to compete with bears and chipmunks for the harvest. She also grows her own herbs and strawberries, ensuring every jar is deeply rooted in the land around us.

Her favorite jam? That depends on the season. But the Slow Roasted Spiced Italian Plum Jam has a special place in her heart: sweet, a little tart, and kissed with cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Of course, the Classic Strawberry remains a love letter to summer—bright, fresh, and nostalgic.

How to Enjoy Pam’s Slow Jams

From a simple slice of buttered toast to cocktails, cheese plates, and even as a glaze for roasted meats, Pam’s jams go far beyond breakfast. Locals like Katie and Estebahn from Roger That Bakery even use the leftover jam foam in their lattes!

A Life in Sullivan County

Pam has been part of the Narrowsburg creative scene since 1998, when she rented her first studio, and later opened a shop in 2006. Over the years, she has watched the county blossom into a thriving hub of art, food, and community.

Her idea of a perfect Sullivan County day? Breakfast at Dutton’s Diner in Damascus, a stop at the Callicoon Farmers Market, lunch at The Heron, and a float down the Delaware River from Cochecton to Narrowsburg.
